If you know me at all, you are probably aware of my obsession with Disney World. It truly is the happiest place on Earth! The castle, the rides, the food, the characters – everything about it is so magical. One of my favorite things about Disney World being able to wear Mickey ears in public without judgment. If you want your own pair of DIY sunflower Mickey ears, you have two options. You can buy them in the park, but it will set you back about $30 and you will look just like everybody else. Or, you can make your own unique ears, for only about $10 – and they are fully customizable!
Pinterest has some fantastic ideas for cute DIY sunflower Mickey ears, and DIY Mickey ears in general! It’s my goal to one day make a pair inspired by each princess. I was drawn to the floral ears specifically, so I decided to make my own pair. It was surprisingly easy – and that’s saying a lot coming from someone who has approximately zero artistic talent.
Here’s what you’ll need:
Mickey Ears Template (Here’s the one I used)
1. Use a pencil to trace the smaller outline of the ears onto the cardboard, and then use your precision knife to cut them out. You will need four pieces of cardboard total (two for each ear). Don’t worry if the edges aren’t perfect. Then, glue two pieces together for each ear.
2. Use the larger stencil labeled “fabric” to outline and cut out four pieces of black felt. Hot glue them to the ears, folding the edges over to cover the cardboard. Again, if it’s not perfect, it’s not a big deal. We’ll be covering the front of the ears with sunflowers.
3. Now, glue the ears onto the headband, making sure that they are symmetrical. Glue them at a slight sideways angle to make sure they stick. The bottom curved edge of the ear should fully touch the headband.
4. Cut the stems off of the sunflower bouquet, and arrange the flowers however you like! You can cover the entire ear with flowers and stick a bow in the middle, or just make a crown like me. It’s completely up to you.
And that’s it! You have your very own pair of DIY sunflower Mickey ears! Super easy, right? I can’t wait to wear my new ears the next time I go to Disney World! I might have to cave and wear them around town just because they are so stinkin’ cute.
